Has the value of gold finally bottomed out ?

Post by papa_umau on Tue 31 Jan 2017, 12:05 pm

Gold is it telling us something?

The rush to gold appears to be slowing. After a strong run so far in 2016 the return from gold was flat during the month of August 2016.

It has returned 40% year-to-date in sterling terms and investors piled into it as a hedge against the uncertainty we have seen so far this year gold tends to have a low correlation to the broader economic environment.

Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future returns: Source: Bloomberg as at 31st August 2016

The fact the price of gold is plateauing rather than declining might be an indication of market sentiment. - See more: HERE

Many people in the past few years have invested large sums of capital in gold bullion as even although it has been showing peaks and troughs it has always generally increased in value year-on-year.

Now, looking at the graph you can find on the TD Investing page you will see that it has now steadily dropped in value and does not look like recovering any time soon.

Those of you that visit and read ROB and who are inclined to buy gold as an investment, ( as I have done in the past ), should think very carefully in the future about this way to make your money grow outside the banks and the very risky stocks and shares.

Thanks for that Paps, as I had no clue that the value of gold was plateauing.

I guess it was a lot to ask for this precious metal to continue the great rises in value that it has had for the past few years.

I was considering putting my savings into gold too. Evil or Very Mad

Yes, it was a lot to ask for gold to keep rising in value as it has over the past few years.

HERE is the link again where anyone can watch what is happening with gold-bullion.

I would love to have some gold, but if I did, I would wear it.

I love diamonds as well, but I don't think any rich bloke is going to shower me with many.
