Watchdog fines EE 2.7 million for overcharging 40,000 mobile phone customers

Mobile phone firm EE has been fined 2.7 million by Ofcom for overcharging tens of thousands of customers.

The communications regulator found that the company broke a "fundamental billing rule" on two separate occasions, resulting in nearly 40,000 customers being overcharged around 250,000.

An investigation by Ofcom accused EE of "carelessness or negligence", adding that while it did not set out to make money from its billing mistake, the company had decided not to reimburse the majority of affected customers until Ofcom intervened.

It is fine that the watchdog has done this, but will any of the 2.7 million pounds go to compensate the customers that have been overcharged ?

Saw that one in today's paper.

Where the hell do you get this news so quickly from Paps ?

It seems that as EE have no clue as to how many of their customers they have filtched this way means that they don't know who to pay the compensation to.

    I don't believe that for a second.

The internet, and especially Reuters gets the news long before it is reported on the TV or radio.

Actually, that is where the TV news people get a lot of their news from too.

And YES, EE and all the rest of the airtime providers DO know who their overcharged customers are but they will not admit it as if they did they would have to repay all of the overcharged customers if they did.
