The 30-second chat that can trigger weight loss.

Post by Angie baby on Mon 02 Jan 2017, 12:11 pm

I don't know about you guys but I always find that after the Christmas and New Year season of eating I have to take off quite a lot of weight that I put on.

I think this is something women in particular worry about.

Doctors who spend 30 seconds telling patients they need to lose weight can have a dramatic impact, a study shows.

Some people, who had no intention of shedding the pounds, lost 10% of their body weight after being offered a free weight-loss programme.

The University of Oxford researchers said the 30-second chat would have a huge effect if every GP did it.

The findings, published in the Lancet, showed that patients were not offended by the advice.

We might pay more attention to our weight gain if the doctor actually told us to start dieting and gave us a free dieting programme too.

What do you good peeps say ?

I honestly think that in these days of the NHS being stretched to breaking-point doctors have more to do that taking up their time with giving slimming advice.

Of course it is true that over-eating is important in general lifestyle, but even although people who stay slim and exercise more may have a better long-term prognosis in life, we really don't need the overworked medical people wasting their time with something that we should strive to do under our own lifestyle choices.

I don't think that any such short chat with a doctor will make any difference to those that are just too fat, as just like any other addiction, the addiction to over-eating requires good self-control.

Yes, being overweight is, in the main, all about taking in more calories than those that are burnt off.

Making that life-style change is all down to keeping ones mouth shut when there is food about.

It has become a national problem, and a five minute chat with a doctor is going to do very little to sort out this problem.

Thinking more about my point, I agree that in the end it all comes down to personal self control if we over-eat.

That being the case, my self control went right out the window over Christmas and New-Year and the sooner I get back to my training regimen the better.

And, of course, being over weight is not always an over-eating case as many people with slow metabolisms and illnesses can put on weight while trying very hard not to over-eat.
