Are you a digital detoxer ?

Post by papa_umau on Tue 13 Sep 2016, 12:09 pm

    Digital detoxers ditch their devices

Fifteen million UK internet users have undertaken a 'digital detox' in a bid to strike a healthier balance between technology and life beyond the screen, according to major new Ofcom research.

The study of 2,025 adults and 500 teenagers reveals how our reliance on the internet is affecting people's personal and working lives, leading many to seek time away from the web to spend time with friends and family.

Ofcom's Communications Market Report 2016 finds that one in three adult internet users (34%), equivalent to 15 million people in the UK, has sought a period of time offline, with one in ten (11%) doing so in the last week alone.

Read the whole report from OFCOM HERE

I was quite surprised by this report, as I was of the opinion that technological advances were tempting all of us to embrace the massive growth in this industry.

    WELL...Are you a "digital detoxer" ?

I simply do not agree with those numbers as I know that once a techy-type is in the grasp of the latest technology they are loath to give any of it up.

I mean, can we really believe what Ofcom says, as they are just government lackeys.

    Detox

    Hi All,

Cannot disagree with all of that. I am a lost cause I think...I am getting worse. I don't want to be, but its getting bad now! ( I even read all the newspapers on line, and play the odd game ). The art of conversation needs rekindling, and I may be in need of medical treatment if this technological revoloution continues !!!!.

At least you see what is happening to yourself in this increasingly technological world. It is the ones that don't see how they are being "got-at" that are the ones that might need some psychiatric help. Cool

Yes, I agree that once you are trapped in that particular mire it is something that is hard to get out of.

I think that "technofear" keeps most of us grounded in the rise and rise of technology.

    It certainly does me.

I have seen the power of "technofear" in my own wife as she will do anything to avoid using anything technical.

She still hasn't sorted out how to work the cooker timer. Evil or Very Mad I love you
