What can we learn from EV owners in Norway ?

Post by papa_umau on Wed 24 Aug 2016, 11:26 am

What can we learn from electric-car owners in Norway (more than 100K of them)?

Thanks to a combination of government incentives and public enthusiasm, electric cars make up a higher portion of new-car sales in Norway than in any other country.

As of May, there were more than 105,000 plug-in electric cars registered in the Scandinavian country of 5 million people.

That makes Norway possibly the best place in the world to study the habits and preferences of electric-car owners.

I have always known that that Scandinavian countries have accepted electric vehicles better that many other countries, especially Britain, but it is actually strange to see it down in black and white.

Why should the Norwegians be so different ?

Yes, I believe that there are a lot of things we can learn from the Scandinavian countries.

The using of electric vehicles is only one of them.

It certainly feels as if the Scandinavian countries are more willing to accept modern hi-tech than the rest of Europe is.

I have noticed recently that there are more electric cars on the roads in Scotland than there ever was in the early days. I see Nissan Leafs and Zoes in many of the car-parks of central Scoltland.

I even saw a black Nissan Leaf yesterday, which gave my heart a bit of a thrill, as the one I have on order is a pearl-black Acenta.

Not just with electric cars, we could learn a lot from the Scandinavian countries about how to be better citizens.

Although most of these countries in the North are more heavily taxed than we are they get much more from their state-controlled services.

And, most of them are not afraid of nationalisation.

The word strikes terror in the hearts of any of the Tory politicos as they are driven by the profit motive to try to privatise just about anything they can in Britain.
