MPs to feel the pain of redundancy too

Post by Gandhi on Tue 09 Aug 2016, 8:11 am

At last the long awaited reformed to parliamentary constituencies are about to be announced

    http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/feb/24/mps-whose-constituency-abolish-boundary-commission-review-50-seats

This review can only be welcomed by all as it finally puts an end to stuffing of the house of Commons by left wing pressure groups due solely to small constituencies in certain areas.

Now we can look forward to an end to hung parliaments and fairer reprentations for all

Strangely, you might say, I totally agree with the doing away of up to fifty parliamentary seats in this way.

Whether this "puts an end to stuffing of the house of Commons by left - or right - wing pressure groups due solely to small constituencies in certain areas" or not is a whole different ball-game.

As long as it also brings in Proportional Representation at the same time.

    Yes, I agree HG.

Proportional representation has to be the best way to do it.

Why? Nobody wanted it at the AV election, and it just leads to weak ineffective governments...

That's your opinion Gandhi, and you are welcome to it.

    AV is not Proportional Representation.

Unlike some, I am happy to go with the democratic decision of the masses.

While I too would like to see proportional representation as a normal part of political life, I have to accept it as it is at the moment.

Anarchists do not believe in democracy.
