    Tesla Autopilot failures.

Post by zathrus on Fri 15 Jul 2016, 11:44 am

I know that I am looking a bit far ahead in the car news, but I am being vindicated in my stance against these newfangled autonomous cars.

Now the leading manufacturer of these things is having to think again after a number of crashes have been caused in the US by the computer control just not being good enough or safe enough.

Here is a report from The BBC that reports this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-36796026

God help us if they ever come to Britain's roads as we are congested enough here already.

Thanks for that Zathrus, as I know about that already, I was planning to publish a thread-starter on it too.

Being a member of the Green Car Reports daily newsletter I had already received information on this problem.

HERE is the report from their website.

I honestly cannot see autonimous cars running on Britain's roads unless they have roads designed especially for them wayyyyyyy in the future.

    Tesla Cars

    Hi All,

Thanks Zath. The idea is good, but I agree, God help us if this came on our crowdwd roads. I would not entertain the idea myself. perhaps in a another 50 years ( if we are still using the damn things ) and when the technology improves, but not now. Either way I won't be here !

Yeah, thanks for the comments from me too Zathrus.

It seems that this technology is just moving too fast too soon and until they get it right the people will have no confidence in it.

I guess it will come just about the same time as vacuum tubes in the sky will arrive.

I love science fiction and that is exactly what this is.

That seems just daft; putting "beta trials" of such a potentially dangerous bit of technology where it could crash and kill people.

I find it also rather ridiculous that it was the "driver" that was killed in one of those crashes.

I mean, what the hell was a driver doing in a driver-less vehicle ?

    Good point Angie.

What was a driver doing in a car that purports to be driverless.

These things will never be seen as safe until they run on dedicated rails.

Incidentally, all of the latest trains on the upgraded Glasgow underground, ( or also known as The Clockwork Orange ), are going to be driverless.
