Stung by phone call scam after switching to TalkTalk

A customer received a message to call a premium number on day of switch and was charged almost 700 even though they disconnected quickly.

This consumer moved their mobile phone contract to TalkTalk in January. On the day the number was ported over they received a voicemail with a request to call a premium number, and assumed it was TalkTalk.

It was in fact a scam, and even after ringing off quickly, the next day It was discovered that they had been charged 678.60 for this call.

After complaining to senior management and even written to Lady Harding, chief executive of the TalkTalk group, without satisfaction, this customer honestly believes they were a victim of this scam and shouldnt have to pay.

Well folks, what do you think about this, and should the customer have to pay that outrageous bill ?

Should TalkTalk be made responsible for this scam, or was it the customer's fault for being taken in ?

Just out of interest, HERE is the TalkTalk security hub.

This one of not hanging up at the other end is successful in capturing many people who think they have dialled a new number.

I agree that TalkTalk should be getting a grip on these fraudsters as the telephone is now becoming a real danger-zone.

Of course these scammers deliberately target the older people who might not have the savvy to escape their tricks and because of this they SHOULD be better protected by their phone-provider.

Talktalk are getting a very bad reputation these days and they really need to do something about this.

I'm with Talk Talk and I don't like them. Had a few 'Microsoft Service' calls, but I just report them to TPS.

I too am with Taltalk and I have been seriously considering going elsewhere for my phone and broadband services.

That "Microsoft Service" call you talk about is one of THE most dangerous of all the scammer calls and I am proud of you that you didn't bite.

    Well done HG.

Naturally suspicious and cynical. Unsolicited calls are regarded as suspicious, even genuine ones from my Bank! Been caught out a couple of times. but I'm a quick study, and keep a firm grip of the purse strings.

Well done HG. I wish all elderly people like you and me were more aware of these scams.

Like yourself, any time anything flags up as suspicious to me that is an indication to close down immediately.
