    London's diesel tax hike punishment.

London's diesel car owners 'to be hit by tax hike' to tackle air pollution

Diesel car owners could face tax rises to tackle deadly air pollution, a Cabinet minister indicated today.

In an interview with the Evening Standard, Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said it had been a “mistake” for former Labour chancellor Gordon Brown to slash taxes on diesel.

The decision had caused a “dramatic rise” in the number of diesel cars spewing toxic nitrogen oxide (NOx) in London and other cities.

“We have got to look at that,” said the minister. “It is something the Chancellor will need to look at in due course.”

Well folks, if they are going to tax the Londoners for using diesels they will be sure to tax the rest of us soon afterwards.

I cannot wait to order my new Nissan Leaf next month, as I will then be free of the massive taxation that is on fossil fuels and I will be able to run my electric car at 2p per mile and without even any VED tax either.

I have looked at the van version of the Nissan Leaf and I too am considering buying one.

I noticed in the news that the new BMW i3 is being bought by a number of police forces around the world, and if the are good enough for the cops they might be good enough for me.

Mind you at 30 to £46,000 pounds it is not really for me. and they don't even make a van version of it. Very Happy

Anyway, I don't drive in London, so the hit that the Londoners are taking does not bother me one bit.

You often wonder how police forces - who are financed from the public purse - can afford to buy such expensive, if non-polluting, vehicles for common use ?

I know that Dubai has bought a fleet of Lamborginis, Ferraris, Mclarens, Aston Martins and a Bentley for their traffic cops so that they can easily catch their traffic crooks. But that is a whole different subject from buying electric cars for police forces.

My, how the other half live !

That's just what happens when you have more money than God.

Very soon these oil-rich countries are going to be finding that they are no longer getting such a ridiculous income from oil any more.

I think that they are well aware that their gravy train is about to hit the buffers.

Because they still have virtually unlimited resources there is nothing to stop them from getting onto the renewables gravy train now.

As I said elsewhere, they will probably corner the market for hydrogen supplies once they have their hydrogen making capabilities fully in gear.

Strewth... that's one of the most expensive of the supercars in the world.

Isn't it amazing what unlimited wealth can do for a country ?

They may not have that wealth for much longer as the Middle Eastern OPEC states are fast running out of oil.
