    Landmark fracking request approved.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 24 May 2016, 12:39 pm

Landmark North Yorkshire fracking operation approved

North Yorkshire County Council voted seven to four in favour of this application being approved.

Hundreds of protesters attended a meeting in Northallerton to voice anger at the project, which had been recommended for approval.

Find the full report from The BBC HERE

Although most of the protesters arguments are based around possible pollution of ground water and the turning of the countryside into  industrial wastelands, and the risk of possible earthquakes, my main argument against this practice is that it will help to continue the use of fossil fuels in power-generation.

As I see it, NOW is the time that all fossil fuel energy sources were scrapped completely.

This will eventually have to be done, so why not start RIGHT NOW ?

    Anybody.

    Hi All,

Because Paps, however much one may empathise with the debate and your views the reality is if we do no use these resources pretty damn quickly, the lights will be going out...Let's see what sort of unrest develops then.

Look at the science and do it properly...bring it on

I HAVE looked at the science and as previously shown, power via the renewable IS possible without using any of the fossil fuels or even Nuclear.

Scotland has already done it and all that is needed is that the rest of the old-guard of fossilised, ( pun intended ),supporters in England and Wales to actually apply the knowledge that has already been proven to work.

Eventually we will get almost all of our power needs from hydrogen, ( the most abundant element in the universe ), taken from water, ( the most abundant resource on earth ), and until then we are just going to have to make the other renewables work as well as they can possibly be made to.

The massive amounts of energy lost from the power of tides and the waves and the wind and the sun WILL keep the lights on until we can get fully into the hydrogen revolution.

    Hi All,

Can't disagree with that Paps and I would support it. problem is in the short term we need to act pretty damn quick !!. Hydrogen and fusion is the way forward.

While the hydrogen revolution is still far off, and atomic fusion is still far away from being viable, ( more power goes into it to make it work than we would ever get out of it at the end ), we are going to have to harness the other renewables from wind, tides, waves, hydro, and the sun to fill in until the hydrogen revolution is here.

The other possibilities of gas, coal, oil and controlled nuclear fission all just need to be scrapped NOW.

Of the eleven new nuclear power stations initially backed by Tony Blair, only ONE, named as Hinkely point C, may get built, even if the problems with French-owned EDF and the Chinese money-supply can be overcome, nuclear energy does not seem to be the panacea that it was first thought to be.
