Mum was forced to dump 500oz of breast milk.

Post by Angie baby on Sun 24 Apr 2016, 12:46 pm

Mum 'had to dump 500oz of breast milk' at Heathrow Airport.

A US mother-of-two has spoken of her frustration that she was forced to dump 500oz (14.8 litres) of breast milk at security at London's Heathrow Airport.

In an open letter posted on Facebook, Jessica Coakley Martinez, who was travelling without her eight-month-old son, said she felt "humiliated".

"You made me dump out nearly two weeks worth of food for my son," she said.

( She was not travelling with her son at the time ).

Heathrow says the UK government's rules on carrying liquids on planes are set out for passengers on its website.

    .....................................

Mind you, that seems to be a lot of milk to carry onto a plane, doesn't it ?

That aside, surely they could have tested, if not tasted the milk so that it could be cleared for taking onto a flight.

A definite touch of "jobsworth" there.

    Comments please.

    14.8 litres of "milk". pale

That is a hell of a lot of milk to carry onto a plane or even to put in the hold.

A difficult one that, as I doubt very much if there has ever been a precedent for that requirement.

The thing is that expressed milk would not stay fresh for very long.

    Help anybody ?

Even if it was frozen, it would be unlikely to be fit for purpose after a Transatlantic flight, especially if there were delays.

There is something completely wrong about this, but it is hard to put a finger on it.

She might have been hoping to sell it; there is a big market for breast milk here.

Yes HG, that could be a possibility.
