Green motorists hit by new VED regime.

GREEN MOTORISTS HIT BY NEW VED CAR TAX REGIME

Buyers of lower-emission cars will bear the brunt of changes to Vehicle Excise Duty from 1 April 2017, with those in the 91-100g/km of CO2 band hardest hit, seeing costs over six years rise from nothing to 820.

Thats the conclusion of a Parkers investigation which suggests that, of the estimated 5.15 billion of additional revenue the new VED rules will generate by 2023, 4.69 billion will be from buyers of cars emitting 1-to-130g/km of CO2 all of which are currently tax-free for the first year.

Initially, the 2017 VED system appears to be an update of the existing scheme, albeit with new bands created and others combined. Notably, only buyers of cars with zero CO2 emissions will have the ability to remain car tax-free under the First Year Rate Any model producing even 1g/km of CO2 will be subject to a charge from next year where the VED minimum rate will rise to 142 for everybody except those who buy totally electric cars.

Read more on this from Western Car dealers HERE

Any of you that read ROB will know that I have been giving out this warning since the new Vehicle Excise Duty ( VED ) rate was set two budgets ago, but it is even more upsetting to actually finally get it in black and white.

    Hi All,

Yeah, well thought there would be some way to extract the 'reddies' from the poor motorist. I am a sceptic of much of the 'green' agenda....Ask everyone to support the planet ( which is just fine by me ) then find a new way to tax em....Typical.

Sadly, the Tories are the best in the world at doing that.

They like to say that they are "green" but after introducing a few greenish policies they slowly pull back and make the environmentalists - and especially the motorists - pay through the nose for having the temerity to think green.

The Tories have always been too close to the gas, oil, and coal lobbies for them to ever truly produce a green government.

I only wish that the green party in Britain was as powerful as the Greens are in Germany, as if they were, the British Tories would have a proper fight on their hands.

There is nothing truly "green" about the Tories as they have many fingers in many not so green pies out there.

The few green policies that they do follow are forced upon them by public opinion.

Yes, my friend, it is true that the Tories know that to NOT be even a pale shade of green they would lose millions of votes.

They only do what they think they cannot avoid doing.

The thing is that most of the electorate are now seeing right though this artificial view of "green" behaviour and I do think they are going to suffer because of this.

I wouldn't be able to afford to drive nowadays, even if my eyesight would allow it. The Government is taxing travel in nearly every way.

Yes, my dear, the motorists have been a cash-cow for the treasury for far too long, and it is about time they they gave us a break from such persecution.
