    The Independent newspaper closes.

Post by papa_umau on Wed 17 Feb 2016, 11:19 am

Independent and Independent on Sunday print closures confirmed

Owner Evgeny Lebedev says last print editions of newspapers will appear in late March as i title sold to Johnston Press

The last editions to be published in late March.

You will still be able to find it online at THIS address.

This is sad news for people like me, that are not connected to any politically-tied newspapers, but at least it will still be found online.

    Anybody ?

I have never bought the Independent newspaper, but I have read it online many times.

Maybe that is the main reason why the hard-copy newspaper is being shut down.

I am sure that many newspapers are feeling the pinch because of internet-use.

We all have to move with the times, and this is just another example of the way things are going.

Yes, sadly mate, many of the "paper" newspapers are feeling the pinch now because of the spread of the news on the internet.

I have to admit that I am as bad as the rest as I read about five online newspapers every day. Suspect

I would probably like to do that too, but as a busy teacher I just don't have the time to sit and read a lot of newspapers online.

I do buy the Daily Mirror on my way to work each morning

I have never bought The Independent newspaper so they will not miss my money.

Private Eye always called the Independent 'The Indescribably Boring' due to it's refusal to take a political stance on things. Although I haven't bought a daily rag for years, I may well sign up to this.

I can see Private Eye's view of that HG, but I think that we do need at least a couple of daily papers that are truly independent of party politics.

The loss of the "Independent" on our streets will be a great one as not everyone has a computer connected to the internet, with which to read the online version.
