UK car crime rates hit a 20 year low.

UK vehicle crime has fallen by 80 per cent since 1993, largely thanks to steering locks and electronic immobilisers, a new report reveals

UK vehicle crime is the lowest it has been in the last 20 years, according to a new report released by the Home Office. Since 1993, vehicle theft and break-ins have fallen by over 80 per cent, despite eight million more vehicles on UK roads.

I guess that this kind of crime is far too specialised for the ordinary sneak-thief to steal your car nowadays.

Mind you, with this in mind, as I know to my cost, it is never good to leave anything that can be easily lifted like surface mounted CD players or Sat-nav etc' as if they can be snatched through a broken window they will be eventually.

A few cars ago, before my sat-navs and CD-players were integral to the car I had both items stolen after a thief broke a window and grabbed them, even although the car-alarm did go off.

Now that all unfixed objects are no longer grabable and car security is much better than it used to be it is now great that car-crime is dropping.

    Anybody ?

Yes, that kind of crime will not be diminished until car windows are much harder to break.

Of course, we should all ensure that nothing knickable is left in plain sight on the car seats or on the dashboards.

I think we all need to get more aware of this temptation that we lay in front of you average passing scroat.

It now appears that it now takes a very skilled crook to actually steal any modern car and of course that has to be a good thing.

The trouble is that these clever crooks are always finding new ways to attack the electronic security features in new cars.

It's an ongoing battle and we need to be vigilant.
