Are our children being "brainwashed" at school ?

Post by papa_umau on Sun 06 Dec 2015, 12:00 pm

    Brainwashing of our children:

Britain's schools are force-feeding pupils politically correct dogma about sexuality, climate change and British history. The result will be a nation LESS tolerant than before, says James Delingpole of The Daily Mail.

Read his blog HERE and come back and tell us what you think.

    My thoughts on the subject:

While I do think that children should be made to understand tolerance and a few of the politically correct rules for life I do not like the idea of any school putting their flavour of such politically correctness into the minds of MY children.

We just do not know how far this teaching is going to go and I like my kids to follow my ideas of tolerance and not anybody else's.

What do you folk think of this ?

Yes, I suppose they have a duty of care to ensure that the kids know the basics here, but the details should always be left to the parents.

I think the main problem here is that many of the parents have their own prejudices and hang-ups which they invariably pass on to their kids.

Aristotle once said: "Give me the child before he is seven, and I will give you back the man!"

It is this premise that makes me feel that all children should be protected against indoctrination until they are able to formulate their own values and ethics.

To me, as an atheist, the worst of these indoctrinations are the religious indoctrinatios that are fed to kids by parents and priests, long before they are able to make up their own minds about where they want to go as far as religious faith is concerned.

We teachers are expected not to have any hang-ups at all, or at least we are supposed to not teach our kids about them.

I do believe, nevertheless that it is our duty to forearm them about where they are liable to go wrong and to teach them how to treat each other with respect no matter what sex, colour or religion they come from.

It is hard always to be neutral about such things but we really have to be if we are not going to get the indictment about "brainwashing" our charges thrown at us.

I think that attack is a bit unfair !

Thanks for your opinion Angie, as at least here on ROB your opinion will carry as much weight as any other's will.

I do agree that teachers, ( male teachers too BTW ), have a difficult job to not allow their own hangups to creep into their teachings.

That is what we have education inspectors for I guess.
