Cuts to tax credits vote could be lost.

Post by papa_umau on Sun 25 Oct 2015, 1:02 pm

A vote in The Lords to agree on Tory plans to cut tax credits for the lowest wage earners in Britain is likely to be lost as Labour, The Lib-Dems, the SNP and the independents say that they will bring down this vote

Two separate motions have already been tabled in the Lords by critics of the tax credit cuts. Of these, the Lib Dem motion under the name of Baroness Manzoor "declining to approve" the changes is the one that would kill them off outright.

No doubt this vote will hit the headlines when it is made

Of course, this lost vote could just be brought back to The Commons where the Tory majority there could overrule this defeat in The Lords.

One worth watching I think !

Tax credits: Lords vote to delay controversial cuts

The House of Lords voted to delay this law until more debate can be assured.

Peers voted by 289 votes to 272 to provide full financial redress to the millions of recipients affected.

They earlier inflicted a second defeat by backing a pause until an independent study of the impact could be carried out.

One in the eye for Osborne and his hit man IDS, I think.

I don't have a lot of time for the House of Lords in it's present form, but as someone said in my newspaper today, "Even a broken clock is right twice a day".

    Anybody....

Yeah Paps you are right there !

Maybe now the Tories might consider doing away with the Lords alltogether ?

Then again, they would make a lot of enemies if they did do this.

The trouble is that many governments of the past have promised this but none have yet had the courage to actually do it.

The great problem with The Lords is that as it stands there are a lot of people from all political backgrounds in it that can help or hinder - as they like - what ordinary MPs want to do in The Commons.

Their power extends far from the annals of the House of Lords and if they lost their House of Lords seats they would not be best pleased by the government that scrapped their gravy train.
