    Amazon delivers Food !

Post by Nuthin fancy on Fri 09 Oct 2015, 8:39 am

    Hi All

    Just seen this:

Online giant Amazon has sparked a food fight with bargain groceries delivered to the doorstep within an hour of being ordered.

The move has ramped up the supermarket price war with the internet store being faster and cheaper than or matching the cost of 33 out of 44 products compared with the chains.

Research by trade magazine The Grocer found items from butter and cheese to yoghurt and ice cream were less than at Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys and Morrisons while the e-tailer was able to match the chains penny-for-penny on milk, pizza, fish and peas.

Amongst the biggest savings were Lurpak Spreadable butter (500g) which was 1.45 cheaper at Amazon, costing 1.80 compared with 3.25 at the Big Four.

What do you think of this ?. I know Amazon has often got a bad press, but from a personal point of view when I have used them they have alwsys deliverd on time, for a good price, and just what I orderd.

Yet more pressure on the 'big boys' who have been ripping us off for years....Anyone goint to try them ?. Think I will still stick with Lidl and Aldi !

    Great starter Technician.

I believe that this new offer will come via the auspices of "Amazon Fresh", which is a subdivision of Amazon Prime, ( a very expensive subscription-based membership ).

Also, this latest move from Amazon is only available in London at the moment.

When we look deeply into the pricing policies of this offer we find that they are only aimed at beating the big supermarkets and are not compared against Aldi or Lidl or the other discount supermarkets.

Here are some of the comparisons that The Mirror made:

There is no doubt that the biggies are going to be shaking in their boots over this idea, and once it is rolled out across the country we may find that these biggies could be starting to fail at a great rate of knots.

Well, here's one of the folks that will not be buying my messages from Amazon, no matter what they charge as I am not at home long enough to get easy parcel deliveries.

My local co-op will do me fine.

    "Messages" eh ? Very Happy

Haven't heard that term for a while.

It may be a long time before the "Amazon Fresh" opportunity comes your way anyway.

Won't use Amazon until it starts paying the taxes it owes.

    Great point HG.

Along with Google and Facebook and a few others that refuse to pay tax on their UK trade.

And, we can certainly not expect The Tories to go after these tax avoiders as there are too many friends of theirs amongst them.
