China to invest in new Hinkley Point.

UK guarantees 2bn nuclear plant deal as China investment announced

Chancellor George Osborne has announced that the UK will guarantee a 2bn deal under which China will invest in the new Hinkley Point nuclear power station.

Mr Osborne, who is in China at the moment, said the deal would pave the way for a final investment decision on the delayed project by French energy company EDF.

He said it would also enable greater collaboration between Britain and China on the construction of nuclear plants.

HERE is the latest BBC news on this project.

It seems that all political and constitutional thinking is put aside when it is money that counts.

China are still one of the worst countries for human rights in the world and yet Osborne is willing to guarantee this investment with a very economically unstable China.

    Anybody ?

'economically unstable China' - whilst it may be going through a purple patch, i think Orbourne would prefer the Chinese economic problems to those of the UK - trade surplusses, double digit growth....

Just like the American rightists, Osborne does not care if we get into hock with the Chinese so long as he can say that we are becoming one of their largest trading partners.

As I see it this is the old story of MONEY overriding any political or human rights considerations.

Yes mate, where money matters, principles go right out the window.

Not a lot new in that.

Correct Zathrus, and there is nobody like a Tory for putting money before principles.
