Free cash machines to be lost.

Post by Angie baby on Sat 15 Aug 2015, 1:19 pm

After a new taxation law brought in by the Tories comes into force many small shops that have autotellers in their outside walls are going to either have to charge people for their use or get rid of the machines altogether.

Here is a news item from The Telegraph about this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/shopping-and-consumer-news/11804515/Free-cash-machines-outside-shops-to-disappear-within-a-year.html

Something tells me that they are going to have to repeal this law as they are going to make a lot of enemies of the people that need to use them that cannot get to a bank.

I don't actually think it was the Tories that did it this time as it seems that the smart-asses in the Civil Service decided to tighten up the tax laws.

I still agree that they should look again at this as they are just going to lose the taxes they hoped to recover when the small shops just bin their free autotellers.

They tried charging for the private ones a long time ago and all of them just failed as nobody was willing to pay three quid a shot to get at their own money.

    Quite right Paps.

I am sure that this government is well aware that if they start to charge for auto-teller use nobody will ever use them.

They tried this once before and it didn't work then, so I don't know how it is going to work now.

I think it is a bit more about TAXING them than charging for them.

If the small shops have to pay a big tax bill because they have one of these machines then they will just be chucked and the service will be lost.

As an aside to this the inland revenue are going to finish up getting less tax income rather than more in this situation.

My old mum lives in a smallish town which recently lost it's bank and it's post-office and now she depends on the small Co-op autoteller to be able to draw out her pension.

If the Co-op gets rid of it's cash-machine I will have to go with her on the bus to the next town with a bank autoteller.

This is outrageous and shouldn't be allowed.

I am very sorry for your "old mum" Angie, as she will only be one of many thousands of poorer and elderly people who will have to travel to be able to get cash in hand after this stupid taxation enforcement is applied.
