    "Labour contest should be paused".

Post by papa_umau on Tue 11 Aug 2015, 11:51 am

A senior Labour MP has called for its leadership contest to be "paused" over fears it has been infiltrated by supporters of other parties.

Barry Sheerman said those registering to take part included members of the Socialist Workers Party, the Green Party, the Conservatives and UKIP.
Labour rejects claims of "hard left" and Conservative supporters signing up to back left winger Jeremy Corbyn.

And a Labour spokeswoman rejected calls to suspend the leadership contest.

Read this bit of outrageous news from The BBC HERE

If nothing else does, this bit of nonsense shows that the rightist, ( New-Labour type ), candidates in this contest are running-scared of the campaign put up by Jeremy Corbyn.

If this contest is "stopped" or "paused" by the Labour grandees this will be a direct attack on the democratic process.

If they want to tighten up the procedure for internal voting then they should do it once they are back in power.

    Anybody ?

If we just stop and think about this for a second, it suggests that the newest Labour party members are either liars or they are fifth columnists for the people who want to see Labour killed off by moving back to the left.

Even if this is the case I think that it might still be a good idea to take the Labour party back to it's roots and to rebuilt it from there into the party that once used to represent ALL of the workers of Britain.

It is now too late but I was also thinking that I too might have joined the Labour party in order to be able to vote for Jeremy Corbyn.

I still think that he is going to be elected as the party leader, but he is going to get a hard time from the Blairite members once he is in post.

I agree HG, and I also think that even if his competitors for the leadership are now turning on the dirty tricks this will strengthen the support for Corbyn.

It may take a very long time to rebuild the Labour party into what it once was, but when rebuilding anything it is best to start right from the bottom.

    Too true Papa.

The Labour party is going to have to re-build right from the bottom and the other candidates are just going to give us more of the same.

"More of the same" is just not going to be good enough.

I in fact love it that the other candidates for the party leadership areáterrified of Jeremy Corbyn.

If Corbyn becomes leader of the party just watch the other Blairite candidates as they jump over to the left in order not to fall out with the new boss.

Have to admit I admire the guy's views - he is another Ken Livingstone

However he will never win an election for Labour as the POV he represents no longer exists - the 'working man' is a cliche better represented by UKIP.

As to Scotland it is all about 'troops on the ground' - Labour lost through sheer arrogance and didnt even bother knocking on doors. You need a good organiser to help win elections and Corbs is an intellectual. The word on the streets is that the Scottish Conservatives are the ones to watch.

I agree that Corbyn is a bit of a rebel in the party and he was originally a 100-to-1 outsider for the leadership race.

Since he began saying stuff that looks back to the roots of the party he has grabbed thousands of followers and now leads the race for the leadership.

I could even see the lefty Labour supporters that voted SNP in Scotland coming back to the fold if he helps to re-jig the party up here.

As to the "working man" tag: I don't think he will be appealing to this narrow demographic, because he knows that the party needs to prove that it speaks for all of the workers in Britain, including the white-collar and management workers too.
