Shark fin soup on the menu of Chinese restaurants.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 21 Apr 2015, 11:49 am

In a shocking report by the Mail online it has been found that in up to one-in-five of British Chinese restauraunts SHARK FIN soup is on the menu.

Shark fin soup on the menu in dozens of UK Chinese restaurants after they use loophole that allows passengers to bring them in if they are for personal consumption
Up to one in five Chinese eateries could be selling soup using illegal meat
Charity says it is often disguised on menu or only offered if requested
Loophole lets people bring 20 kg of meat into UK for personal consumption

It is totally illegal to sell genuine shark-fin soup in Britain and these shops should be investigated and prosecuted.

    Anybody ?

I had seen these on the menu's of Chinese Restaurants but I had thought that this was just a replacement for the real shark-fin soup.

Seems I was wrong eh ?

If what you say is true then the trading standards and the conservation people should come hard down on these restaurants.

Yes Zathrus, the British Chinese restaurants are going to have to remember that they are no longer trading in China, where shark-fin soup is allowed and where thousands of sharks are killed just for their fins.

If this was to hit the main news I think that we might find that Chinese restaurants would be boycotted by the people who, like me, want to protect sharks in the wild.

I tasted shark-fin soup once, ( not my own BTW ), and it just tasted like fishy water.

I might have liked it better if it was water taken from the fish tank and heated up. YUK Suspect

Angie, I have never tasted shark fin soup, so I cannot comment on that.

Don't get me wrong though, because I normally love Chinese food.

I just don't fancy the idea of eating Tiger's bits, dogs bits, or any food made from protected species.
