Kingfisher set to close 60 B&Q stores.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 31 Mar 2015, 12:45 pm

Kingfisher, the owner of DIY chains B&Q and Screwfix, is to close about 60 B&Q stores in UK and Ireland over the next two years.

But, it plans to open 60 new outlets under its Screwfix brand.

"Kingfisher has said for some time that B&Q UK & Ireland can adequately meet local customer needs from fewer stores and that some of the stores should be smaller," it said in a statement.

I find it a bit galling that they are happy that we are willing to travel much further to get to one of their stores after they close our local ones.

That attitude is a bit arrogant if you tell me. Suspect

All I think this will do is to drive loyal customers to Homebase and to Wicks instead of having to drive further to get to available B&Q stores.

    Opinions please ?

I am sure that the Kingfisher group will be well-aware of that risk Paps, but I guess they will be weighing up how much they will save on their wage bills by closing the sixty shops against what they will lose by lost custom.

It's a risky strategy, no doubt.

Mind you I am sure that the marketeers in the back-rooms will have crunched these numbers a while ago.

Only the future will tell if this move will be worth it.

I don't know how they think they can replace the lost B&Q stores with more Screwfix outlets.

I regularly shop in B&Q but I have never shopped in Screwfix. Suspect

Yes Angie, these two stores do completely different jobs so they cannot be compared.

I am sure that Homebase, which is a B&Q-type of store, will be happy to take up the slack where the sixty B&Q stores are going to close.
