Does money make you mean ?

Post by papa_umau on Mon 16 Mar 2015, 11:57 am

A blog by Lucy Hooker of The BBC News, Los Angeles.

From grumpy old misers to the wolves of Wall Street, Hollywood has always had plenty to say about the corrupting influence of wealth. But how accurate are the silver screen stereotypes - and, does money make you mean?

The road along the seafront in Los Angeles is lined with palm trees - skateboarders and dog-walkers stroll along, heading for the beach. And social psychologist Prof Paul Piff is spending the afternoon going back and forth over a pedestrian crossing.

Thanks to the high number of wealthy locals, there is no shortage of upmarket vehicles gliding past. The four-wheel drives, sleek sports cars and nifty hybrids are an essential part of his demonstration.

He's here to illustrate one of his more provocative experiments - who is more likely to stop for pedestrians, the rich or the poor?

Find out the result of this experiment by looking HERE

Of course, being a working man and  slightly left of centre, I am already of the opinion that the poor have a much better attitude to this subject than the rich ever had.

Go to the link, above, and come back and tell us what you think of this postulation ?

Of course having money makes the person grippy with it as that is usually how they got it in the first place.

Having said that I also have to admit that there are a good few very rich people that are true philanthropists.

The names, Andrew Carnegie, Bill Gates, Brian Soutar, and a few others do break the mould of rich people being mean.

It is the ones that used to be poor but become rich like Cheryl whatsername that lets down her or his roots.

One might think that if they have come from poverty, they might be able to remember what it was like when they were poor.

The used to be, Cheryl Cole, was kicking up a fuss today that she was going to have to pay more tax if the mansion tax goes ahead.

If for any reason that is an especially a good one for putting on a mansion tax.
