    Hidden filming in care-homes.

Post by papa_umau on Thu 12 Feb 2015, 12:35 pm

Advice issued on hidden filming in care homes

Guidance is being issued about the use of hidden cameras to monitor the care of people in hospitals and care homes.

The Care Quality Commission has produced a pamphlet that sets out what relatives in England need to consider.

It includes advice on gaining permission from the person being cared for and where it can be done.

The CQC said opinion was divided about hidden cameras but it was publishing the guidance in recognition of the fact some people were already using them.

OK then. What do YOU think about such secret filming in care-homes ?

    Here's my tuppence-worth about this:

As far as I see it, this has to be a good thing, especially if the care-home operatives do not know how or where this filming is going on.

So long as the privacy of the care-home residents is protected I say we should have more of this.

There is too much abuse goes on in situations like this and the only way to stop this abuse is to catch them red-handed as they mistreat their patients.

    Anybody ?

The thing is that this hidden filming is not done by the care-home watchdogs in order to ensure that no abuse is carried out behind closed doors.

No, these incidences of hidden cameras being set is being done by relatives of the persons that are being cared for.

After the scandals discovered in many private care-homes it is not surprising that the relatives are afraid of what is happening to their vulnerable old-folk.

I cannot think who this set of guidelines is aimed at.

There is no doubt that this advice is aimed at the people who do not trust the privateer care-homes to look after their vulnerable relatives.

They are quite right to do this if they feel the need, as it is via this system of hidden cameras that all or most of the abuses have already been uncovered.

If it had been left to the care-home owners or the government watchdogs we would NEVER have known about the awful things that can go on behind these closed doors.

I say, let the relatives carry on installing these extremely well hidden cameras any place they want, so long as this is with the consent of the care-home resident.

In fact, because these tiny video cameras, ( hidden in photo-frames and trinkets etc' ), are now virtually undetectable, the care-workers that are liable to abuse their charges will never know whether they are being videoed or not, and that will make them behave themselves.

As long as they THINK there is a working spy camera in the room, even if there isn't, this thought will be just as effective as having one there.

    It is called a DETERRENT

That is why it is good that this spy-camera thing is kept to the forefront of the minds of the ones that might abuse their patients
