    The OXFAM "perfect storm" tweet.

Post by Angie baby on Sat 20 Dec 2014, 12:45 pm

OXFAM put out a tweet in June speaking of a "perfect storm" caused by "zero hours contracts, high prices, benefit cuts and unemployment".

I found this on the BBC website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-30546517

They have been attacked by the Tories because of this "overtly political" tweet, and, in its report, the Charity Commission said the tweet and accompanying embedded picture "could have affected the views of those who received it and could be misconstrued by some as party political campaigning".

I cannot see anything wrong with that, can you ?

No, my dear, I cannot see anything wrong with that either.

It is Oxfam's job to concentrate on the reasons for poverty both at home and across the world and if they are getting through to our law-makers then that has to be a good thing.

More power to their elbow, I say.

Yes, I think you are right there, as it is good for a change for such organisations to actually tell the truth instead of just following the establishment line.

While many smaller charities will often take this stance, it is really good to see a big one like OXFAM standing firm on the rights of the poor.

I only wish many more of the big charities did this, but too many of them are too close to the "establishment" line for this to happen across the board.
