The cost of modernising Britain's infrastructure.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 08 Jul 2014, 12:25 pm

Repairing/rebuilding the nation's services will add £375bn to household bills, MPs warn.

Rising energy and water costs will hit poor hardest as above-inflation increases help modernise Britain's ageing infrastructure.

It is a fact that consumers will have to meet the majority of the £375bn total cost of major upgrades to services including energy, water, communications and transport.

Warning that the poorest households would be hit hard by years of above-inflation increases, members of the influential public accounts committee (PAC) said consumers would be expected to meet two-thirds of the £375bn total cost of major upgrades to services.

Well folks this growing problem has been festering away since these services infrastructures were originally put in place in and around the time of Queen Victoria and now they are all breaking down at just about the same time.

The authorities have been willing to spend our money on a patching up job for a very long time but now these patches and repairs are not good enough and are becoming more and more expensive to maintain.

The private companies that make money out of these services will not be spending the money that will need to be spent in order to renew these crumbling services !

The trouble is that all of the money spent by government comes from us via the many avenues of taxation and they do not have any money of their own to spend on this massive renewal of services infrastructure.

This and the next few generations are going to have to shoulder this  massive expense if our ageing infrastructures are to be completely renewed.

    Any thought folks ?

Very true Paps, and what is worse is that even with them being privately owned they are still subsidised by the tax-payers whether the money comes from higher bills or from government grants..

This money is NEVER taken out of the profits of the private sector.

    Dead right Zath'.

That is why I believe that none of the country's vital public services should be in the hands of the profiteers.

Nowadays more and more highly-educated people are calling for the essential services to be renationalised.
