The sad passing of Elena Baltacha.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 06 May 2014, 11:10 am

A Scottish tennis star dies shortly after she was awarded the Britain number one position in women's tennis.

Elena Baltacha was a dedicated and hard-working athlete who deserved every accolade that she received because of her commitment to her tennis career. She was a perfect role model for youngsters getting into the sport and she will be sadly missed. The fact that she was only thirty years old herself makes this all the more tragic.

Andy Murray's mum - who trained Elena in her early years - stood silent in a one minute tribute to her along with her boys at the beginning of the Madrid Open competition.

Yes, very sad, as she was just too young to go out like that.

In a nice touch Andy Murray signed the TV camera glass as he usually does after he beat Nicolas Almagro in the Madrid Open, and he added the words "Bally" and a heart under his signature.
