8 geniuses after bumps on the head.

Struck lucky: 8 people who got a bump on the head - and became geniuses

Incredible stories of how brain trauma can transform ordinary people into maths, music and art experts

Previously a school drop-out who worked in his dads furniture shop and was the life and soul of the party, at the age of 31 he was left a maths and physics genius overnight after being hit on the head during a mugging.

    Jason Padget:

Diagnosed with acquired savant syndrome, in which brain injuries turn previously normal people into experts in maths, art or music, Jason, 43, is one of few people in the world who can draw fractals by hand. The images are repeated geometric patters and can take him weeks if not months to finish.

AND, at least seven more people like this !

Read HERE about these eight people in The online Daily Mirror who have suddenly become geniuses after a head trauma.

When such events can be repeated a number of times by general head trauma, I was wondering why the medical geniuses cannot do it too, by design ?

    Anybody ?

    Bumps on the head

Post by Technician on Thu 24 Apr 2014, 9:08 am

Well, considering that I could do with a few bumps on the head then !!.

Seriousy, its very strange, and just goes to show how little we still know about brain function and the origins of consciousness. So pleased science has some mystery and we don't know all the answers !

I think it will take many hundreds of years - if ever - for us to even start to know what goes on in a human brain.

I have often thought that when a brain surgeon gets going with a scalpel in a living brain this act can be very easily analogised with doing it with a blunt axe.

One would never take a welding torch to a fine Swiss watch, but brain surgeons do something like this just about every time they poke about in the supercomputer that is a living human brain.

    Too true Paps.

The brain is not like any other part of the body where surgeons can get in and do good work as any kind of a touch with a scalpel on or in the brain is almost certainly going to do damage.

As was once said: "Brain surgeons hide their mistakes by burying them".

Mind you, I have also heard of people who were born blind getting their sight back after a bump on the head.

Maybe hitting it with a mallet might be more successful that cutting it with a knife ? Twisted Evil

Yes, the human brain is probably the most complex computer that modern science has ever fiddled with.

I suppose that even while that might be true about such bumps doing good to some brains, I think we will find that most serious bumps on the head usually just result in brain-damage and diminished brain-power rather than increased brain-power.

I do not think that I would like to take the risk of the damage going the wrong way !

    Thanks all for your comments.

I have always felt that anything that medicine has to do with the brain is a hit or a miss action as both brain-surgery AND psychiatry seem to be based on guesswork most of the time.
