    Youth unemployment fears rising.

Post by papa_umau on Mon 10 Mar 2014, 11:05 am

According to the British Chamber of Commerce, ( BCC ), many young people in the UK are yet to see the full benefits of the country's gradual economic recovery, with over one million 16 to 24-year-olds still out of work and education in the three months to December last year.

These are the kinds of figures that our government do not like to think about when they are lauding that the economy is starting to pick up.

Tell that to the one million young people who feel let down by the Con-Dem government.

If the young people who are rotting on the unemployment list are to find decent employment there has to be a whole change of attitude to their employment.

Ed Miliband was talking about a new short term subsidised work-placement plan if they get back in and if the people offered these jobs don't take them they are going to have their job-seekers payment cut.

This is an old old idea that has been done before and which does nothing for the long term and proper work needed by these youngsters.

I am surprised that he is even trying this one on as surely Labour can do better than that.

They have to be seen as doing something about this number of unemployed young people, but until the economy fully recovers they will be struggling with these "make-work" practices.

Not ideal, but better than nothing.
