Are Royal Mail kidding us on ?

Post by papa_umau on Mon 03 Mar 2014, 12:05 pm

After it was announced by the newly-privatised Royal Mail that the cost of a first class stamp for a standard letter is to go up by 2p to 62p and the second class stamp is to rise by 3p to 53p, and that also, from 31 March, a large letter first-class stamp up to 100g will rise by 3p to 93p and a large letter second-class stamp will increase by 4p to 73p. Consumer and business groups are up in arms at this flagrant rise just two years after a previous massive rise.

Well folks, it was expected that once the Royal Mail was in private hands it would not be long before the one pound stamp would arrive, and here we are, already knocking on the door of this important threshold.

You sound surprised about this Paps ?

Just about everybody that could think straight knew that as soon as the Royal Mail was privatised at a knock-down price they would screw us into the ground with raised postal costs.

It is very true that the one pound letter is almost here.

No Zath', I am not one bit "surprised" about this as I warned everybody at the time of the privatisation of the Royal Mail that the price of postage would rise inexorably until only the very well off could afford to send snail-mail any more.

While it is fine that people like us can revert to e-mail, not everybody in Britain has this choice and the ones who cannot are going to be sidelined and forced to communicate by face-to-face methods alone.
