$60 a barrel crude will kill off Putin....BUT

Post by papa_umau on Wed 22 Jan 2014, 10:36 am

A news report from the online Daily Telegraph indicates that the extremely low price of crude oil per barrel at the moment of $60 is liable to kill off Putin's Russia, ( Read more on this HERE ).

I have to ask a more important question:

If the wholesale price of crude oil is as low as it has been for many years, why are we now not getting our road-fuel and home-heating fuel at greatly reduced cost ?

These retail costs to us keep on going up all of the time and this drop in the price of oil never seems to gravitate down to us by more than a few miserable pence at the filling stations.

The only company that has even tried to bring down the cost of road-fuel is the ASDA supermarket and of course the rest of them just pricematch.

It is time that the government stepped in to ensure that the consumers of Britain got a fair deal in such costs.

Don't really give a damn about Putin.

As far as the price of oil effecting the cost of fuel is concerned; we are now used to only getting a very small cut of that drop in wholesale cost.

Whenever that happens the eyes of the fuel company executives light up as they see greater profits not reduced charges.

Anyway, the greatest amount of fuel costs is the amount of tax the government takes.

They are very unlikely to reduce a tax that comes in so easily.

    Hi All,

As Zath says, its a big rip off with the governmental tax in this country, and they will only throw scaps at us to appease the masses. NOTHING positive will be done.

On top of that, and out of much of the public eye are the greedy comodity traders, who speculate on crude, monitor the markets all day and look for quick 'killings' which artificicially forces up the price of crude and our petrol. These b****rds are the real criminals, and they are happy to gloat about it.

the way the market operates needs a thorough investigation with criminal sanctions taken against wrong doers.......Don't hold your breath !!!

You are Soooo right about that Techician.

The mostly-Arab Opec oil barons, the spot-market-price game-players and the speculators have been making killings off this commodity for many years and we can be sure that between them and the governments that take a massive tax whack we will never get fair fuel prices so long as the internal combustion engine is king.

It is for that specific reason that I have been supporting alternative road-fuels and motive power for many years.

If the oil barons did not have such a grip on the electric car market and the alternative fuels market we might be all running about in electric vehicles by this time.

Of course the ultimate answer is when we need no longer use petroleum-based fuels at all, and once the oil-supplies really start to dry up I expect that the hydrogen revolution, ( where this hydrogen is made from water, using electrolysis ), will fully get under-way.

Not in my life-time, but it HAS TO happen, it is just about when and not if.
