Plans for two new cities suppressed by Cameron.

Post by papa_umau on Sat 11 Jan 2014, 12:17 pm

Yesterday Nick Clegg had words with David Cameron over his "secret" plans to build two new "garden" cities in England.

Cameron had already spoken of just such a plan many months ago but the survey that was done in order to make it work has been quietly shelved for fear of upsetting the NIMBY Tory voters.

HERE is a news item on this subject gleaned from the online Daily Telegraph.

What do YOU think should be done about this ?

Do you think that it is a good idea of Cameron's to build two completely new cities in the English countryside so that the chronic housing shortage can be addressed, or do you think that Cameron should pay attention to the NIMBY Tories in England's green-belt ?

Of course it is a good idea so long as these houses are available to all walks of life and are affordable either as rentable or buyable.

Cameron is in a bit of a bind here as he wants the people to see that he is trying to help the chronic shortage of affordable housing - and thereby getting more votes - and yet he does not want to upset his Nimby pals either.

He could actually finish up losing more votes than he gains here if all of the Nimbies that he upsets are Tory-voting Nimbies.

Yes Angie, his backbench rebels are already plotting against him as far as Europe is concerned and he does not want more of them plotting against him that are against his new-build policy.

It was released on the news yesterday that even although all local councils had already been warned to organise what is called a "local plan" for possible new-build projects many of the NIMBY-type councils have not made out one of these plans and are getting the new developments thrust down their throats.

There is still to be more trouble attached to this to come out.
