Say Brairite Milburn who says we as Pensioners are not doing our fair share towards the cuts, but being Labour what can you expect.

Yes, this has been said by both sides of the political divide as they see the rich pensioners as a possible target.

I do not think that any Labour or even a Tory government of the future would have the bottle to attack the poorer pensioners as they know that we have a very strong vote that could destroy both or either of them.

You may not be aware of the fact, but the so-called "grey" vote is very well organised and the potential governments know this and are terrified of us.

I actually think that some rich pensioners feel a bit guilty about taking their state pension when they don't actually need it.

I guess it is HOW and from whom they take some of it back that matters.

Not sure if I agree with you Papa in Scotland no chance of either party getting any where. This side the Tories are not that stupid and will leave us alone and use Milburn as a weapon against the labour party.

If we get independence then the whole face of politics will be liable to change with a polarisation to left and right afterwards, but that is still pie-in-the-sky until after the referendum next year.

Until that happens, Scotland will still only send one Tory to Westminster and the rest of our UK politicians will mostly be Labour and SNP ones. The Lib-Dems have been decimated up here too and by the time of the next general election they will probably be holding their Scottish conferences in an old phone box somewhere.

Alan Milburn is somewhat of a strange fish as even if he was once a Blairite in the New-Labour government, he has accepted a non-aligned post from the Coalition government as the "Social Mobility Tsar" so that he could try to help with the imabalance between the rich and the poor in Britain.

And YES Hughh, the Tories could "use him as a weapon against the Labour party" if he lets them.

I wonder if the Queen gets her state pension and if she does, what does she do with it ?

The total cost of keeping the monarchy increased by 1.5 million to 41.5 million during the 2008-09 financial year - not including security costs. Palace accounts also showed that the Queen dipped into the civil list reserve fund to boost her Civil List payment by 6 million.

As she gets a total of around 14 million herself from the civil list I don't think she needs the state pension.

    An official quote:

The Queen's state Pension is not an automatic benefit based upon age. and as the Queen's National Insurance record isn't good enough to get one based on contributions she gets what is called an "Over 80 Pension" as she is 80 and has been in Great Britain for ten years in the last twenty years. This works out at 54.35 a week at the moment.

In the midst of the credit crunch, no doubt she will be grateful for it. Twisted EvilEmbarassed
