Know your Sale of Goods Act....

Post by papa_umau on Thu 09 May 2013, 11:22 am

As I watch the BBC programme Watchdog religiously I often find stuff on that programme that would be good to advertise on ROB.

Here is the latest piece of advice from Watchdog that I have already mentioned earlier in the life of this site:

Many people who have been ripped off by companies that do not produce the goods that they say they will, come under the seldom-used Sale of Goods Act.

This one piece of consumer legislation is probably the most powerful tool that any consumer can use in the fight to get fair treatment in the market place.

HERE are the important points of this Act that will almost always apply when you are going to and after you have bought any item.

Don't be afraid to use these arguments as they have been put in place to help people like you and me.

Mmmmmmmmm, I don't know. This looks like it should be applied by lawyers and you know how expensive they are.

Whenever I am considering such actions I always fear the possible court costs.

Now that even fewer people are able to claim legal aid it starts to look like it is only the well off that will be able to gain recourse to law.

A lot of people don't know that taking stuff to court does not need to be expensive.

So long as all of the usual avenues of complaint have already been used, including the ombudsman for the specific complaint, then going to court by one's-self often requires no more than one form to fill in.

The Citizen's Advice Bureau will advise FOR FREE what needs to be done in this respect.

I have heard of the "Sale of Goods Act" before, but never -until today - knew what it was and how it might help me to get reparations against the crooked traders out there.

I will keep this posting in my favourite lists so that I can refer to it later on.

    Thanks again Papa.

That's exactly what to do Angie.

    And very sensible too.
