Dependence on food-banks trebles in one year.

Post by papa_umau on Sun 28 Apr 2013, 12:48 pm

Almost half of parents fear that they will be unable to feed their children because of soaring food prices, a new survey reveals.

These alarming findings came after it emerged last week that the number of Brits who depend on food-banks trebled in a year - to 350,000.

The survey of 1009 parents by Ipsos MORI also revealed that families fear being landed with any unexpected bills for big items like new boilers or fridges.

People should not have to live "in fear" every day of their lives.

If this is not an indictment on the way that this present government is running things then nothing is !

The Tories and their Lib-Dem pals should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves when they read this report on the effect that their policies are having on the most vulnerable people in our society.

Yes Paps, that sounds about right.

The thing is that the Tories are stumbling along in their blindness refusing to admit that it is their political actions that have forced this situation to come about.

I really hope that the people who are effected by these draconian austerity programmes remember how they were effected when they come to vote in the next general election.

I think you are right Zath', as come the next general election the Tories and their Lib Dem pals are going to wonder what hit them.

Every time that they do something like this another nail is knocked into their coffin.

The last time that this was seen was during the last severe depression.

I wonder if the Tories are ready to admit that their policies have generated more poverty across Britain than any other government have ever done ?

"They" won't admit it HG, but I think that more and more people every day are realising that this indictment is true.

I honestly hope they remember and get out and vote when the time comes.

Sadly, the Tory machine knows that it can rely on the fact that many of the people from the bottom end demographic, that they are torturing so much, don't normally get out and vote.

It is long past time that they did.

Well, if they want it changed they should vote. I think we should do as the Aussies do, and make voting compulsory.

I completely agree HG, as if it is already proved to be a democratic success in other countries, I see no reason why we should not introduce complusory voting here too.

So long as they don't tell us WHO to vote for then the democratic principle will still hold strong.

In fact I wrote to my local paper on this subject recently and got the top-letter award for it.

The big problem is - as I said in that letter to my local rag - that the Tories will NEVER introduce compulsory voting as if they did they would see their voting base wiped out at a stroke.

Maybe we can pressurise Ed Miliband to introduce this law once he is back into power in 2015 ?
