Waste at the top end increasing....

Post by papa_umau on Wed 26 Dec 2012, 12:14 pm

I often wonder why the spendthrifts at the top of both private and governmental bodies like Quangos - for example - seem unable to even try to stop this kind of spending.

While ordinary people continually suffer under government draconian austerity schemes we see people at the top of all of the private and public entities throwing taxpayers and consumers money right left and centre in larger and larger amounts.

Spending money on consultancy fees, corporate entertaining and foreign travel junkets, amongst other things, seems to me to be wastefulness personified.

Why is it that this waste is not curtailed when we see so many poor, weak, sick and old people in Britain today being continually hammered when government seem hell-bent on getting the deficit and spending down at the bottom end of society ?

It was published today that 113,000,000 was spent in Scotland alone on these kinds of top-level expenses in 2012 and it is expected that this figure will rise in 2013.

If this is what has been spent in Scotland I cannot imagine how much this bill will come to in the rest of the UK.

I guess that my old Irish Grannie was right that as far as money goes "easy-come easy-go" is the right phrase to use here.

Without knowing the specifics it is difficult to defend, but I do know that it is important to research something thoroughly before taking any action. Apart from people you that is - who know right from wrong without any experience whatsoever.

    How lucky you are Paps!

Do I hear a note of jealously in that Clappers ?

    Anyway....

I have been watching this kind of spending for many years and it certainly seems that they do not even try to save money in this direction.

I know that before large amounts of money are being planned to be spent it is often good to "consult" about what the money is going to be spent on, BUT.... if all that comes out of these consultations is a carte-blanche go ahead anyway then the money that has been spent on these investigative consultations is money wasted.

As far as the fat-cats getting their jollies in overseas junkets and in corporate hospitality is concerned; I guess that that is just something that we will always have as we ordinary mortals have little power over this kind of spending.

I still think that my old Irish Granny was right when she said that "money that is easily acquired is also easily spent".

I get a bit depressed about this exact subject as I too cannot do anything about it.

Maybe that fact will be in my mind when I go to vote in a couple of years !

What am I supposed to be jealous of Paps?

Since you have no involvement at high level in anything Paps, then any observation you have made is pure speculation.

As to consultants, they have a great use in that they 'independently' support what the decision maker says and his decision is justified. The fact that he says what he is paid to say is irrelevant, the decision maker has shown due diligence. Sure it is an expensive process, but since people like you never bother to check facts before mouthing off some process is necessary to ensure propriety.

Regarding the junkets, I am dead against these but you seem to accept bribery as the norm. Shame on you!

    .......giggle..... Laughing

It is STILL a fact that "those who have most, will waste most", as they have less idea about actual value when it comes so easily for them.

Another fact which actually fits in very well here too is the one where it is said that: "Those that have the least, give the most when need is at it's greatest!"

I guess that is why the rich stay rich: They hang on to as much of it as they can, for as long as they can !

The 'e' is in honour of the village jester Ivanho'e'

As to your two proverbs, you do realise they are mutually exclusive? 'Those who have most', presumably the rich, 'will waste most' again presumably giving the most whereas 'those that have the least' (the poor) 'give the most'

Which is it Paps? I put it to you that you are actually stereotyping 'the poor' as well as 'the rich' and giving away your true feeling which are 'I'm all right Jack'

How many times - and in how many more ways - do I have to say that "one does not need to actually do a thing to know about it".

You keep harping on about this "experience" argument but surely even you will admit that "experience" can be found by just looking for it, and educating one's-self in the many ways that are available to us these days.

I mean, to try to make it even simpler for you - as usual. If you could not speak about anything other than subjects that you have had direct knowledge of, your narrow experience of life would mean that you would be struck dumb.

Come to think of it.... that might not be a bad idea !

PLEASE.... stick to the topic or I will remove your off-topic posts.

And BTW, only moderators and myself have access to IP addresses on ROB.

Clapco, you are becoming more of a pest than a person of value to ROB, and I will expect you to tone down the trolling or I will extricate you from any membership and presence here.

Take this very last warning !

Yes Zath, sadly there does come a time when the bad outweighs the good in any poster and I have given our Clapco more freedom than I have allowed for many others previously.

He simply had to go so that I could get ROB back to discussing the five sub-forum titles and nothing else.

That is that I am afraid !
