    Congratulations to Tech MD !

Post by Admin on Sun 15 Apr 2012, 12:43 pm

    Hi again folks.

As most of you will already know, the handing over of your computer for repair is a minefield to get through and many companies - especially the big companies - can cost a lot and not even be guaranteed to give good service.

Well, I found a refreshing thing yesterday when my computer crashed without warning.

Even after trying to restart it in "safe-mode", it refused to start and would not even go past the loading splash-screen.

I had been told recently that a new computer engineer had started a small shop in my home-town and I took the computer to him in desperation. I just caught him on Saturday afternoon as he was shutting up shop and when I asked him to take a look at my computer he said he would and that he would ring me later on that day to give me a report.

As good as his word, a few hours later he rang me and told me that the computer was fixed

I went up to his shop and there it was ready to go.

I asked him what had been the problem and he reported that my graphics-card had burned out and that he had replaced it with a new one and gave the computer a de-frag into the bargain. It is now running much faster too.

When I asked him - Murdo Druce - ( Hence the MD in the title name of his firm ) - how much was this going to cost me, he pleasantly-surprised me by charging just 30.00 including the cost of a new graphics card.

    Well done "Tech MD" !

I have to say that even although this site is here to try to right wrongs on and off the internet it is also here to give congratulations where congratulations are due.

To this end here is the website for the company: http://www.techmd.co.uk

And here is the e-mail address if any of you are local and want to get paid support from Tech MD: support@techmd.co.uk

    Thanks for that Paps !

I have visited their site and I am surprised at how many electronic things this guy says he can repair.

Bit of a smart-ass if you ask me ! Very Happy

Yeah, I think he must be ! Very Happy

Anyway, it is great to see such a clever guy willing to do the jobs we are not smart enough to do at a price that is reasonable. Historically, any individual or company that provides such a specialist service usually holds us to ransom and charges the earth for these services.

That is why I have always felt that it is good to give companies like this a leg up in their vulnerable start-up months and years.

I talk from experience here as I too was in that situation when I had just started up my domestic satellite services business.

When did you do that Papa ?

I thought you were a joiner and a latter-day civil servant.

    A good memory Angie !

In fact, I have had three different jobs in my journey through life and although I started off as an apprentice joiner and did seven years in my trade, I also - during a downturn in the building-trade - moved to join the civil service and spent twenty-two years there also. After I took early retirement from the civil service I expanded on my life-time interest in electronics and I took a business course and a full course in the selling, installation and servicing of domestic satellite equipment at the very beginning of this technology in Britain and had a number of successful years working at and running that business. I am now fully retired and spending a lot of time nipping the heads of the rip-off-merchants out there on my consumer forum.

I bet you didn't think you were going to get a potted version of my life-story when you asked that question eh ? Evil or Very Mad
