A new candidate for the leadership of the Scottish Labour party.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 23 Aug 2011, 1:06 pm

Tom Harris, the MSP member for Glasgow South, has thrown his hat into the ring in the forthcoming Labour leadership contest so that he might fill the gap left by the devalued Iain Gray after the drubbing that Labour got in the recent Scottish Parliament elections.

    Read about this HERE.

( Iain Gray had said that he would be stepping down from the Labour party leadership this September ).

I am sure that any people who might be interested in the future of the Labour party in Scotland might want to find out a bit about this and any other candidates for this competition as - as it is at the moment - without any working leader the Labour party in Scotland is going to be rudderless and without direction.

Do any of you that are interested in politics think that the Labour party in Scotland can ever get back to where it once used to be even with a new and dynamic leader at the helm, or is the continued rise and rise of Scottish Nationalism going to ensure that Labour never regains control of the Scottish Parliament again ?

Being honest, I am not really bothered about what happens in Scotland so long as Labour start to get a grip in the rest of the country.

Ed Miliband is keeping his policies very close to his chest. Too close some say.

In fact it has been suggested that in Scotland the front runners in the race for the leadership crown are Johanne Lamont, ( a woman, ) and "high flyer" Ken Mackintosh.

This is going to make an interesting fight for power in the next few weeks.

Yes Angie, it certainly is going to be "an interesting fight".

Mind you I would not want to be the person who gets that "poisoned chalice" of a job as it is going to be VERY difficult to get Labour back to where it used to be in Scotland.

Labour, up here, have a long journey back to full power !

    Ah hahahahahaha

They would vote for a piece of wood in Scotland if it had a red flag on it.

That comment did not take much thought Clapco as it is blatantly obvious that Labour in Scotland has hit very hard times since the Scottish Nationalists rise and rise into power. ( They are no longer a minority government up here as the last Scottish elections gave them a large working majority in the Scottish Parliament.

All that can be said with confidence is that the Tories are dead and buried and the Liberal Democrats are going to be put into the same coffin.
