What about this E-coli thing then ?

Post by Angie baby on Sat 04 Jun 2011, 1:48 pm

OK, I know that it is mainly in Germany but it is now starting to spread through twelve countries. I read in my newspaper this morning that more than 1,300 people have now been struck down by this bug and that 500 of them are fighting for their lives.

Dr Neil Pennington, ( I think that is his name ) was on the telly yesterday talking about it and he was saying that it is a new strain of this bug that is able to stick to vegetable surfaces just as easily as it is able to stick to human flesh. How scary is that then ?

This bug is going to hit the salad-growers very hard and it is going to mean that many thousands of tons of perfectly good food like cucumbers and tomatoes are going to have to be chucked out.

I sometimes think that nature is having a go at us as I see more and more strains of bacterias and suchlike becoming more and more resistant to antibiotics.

I think that I will just go back to bed and pull the duvet over my head ! Neutral

SO.... you don't give a damn that many businesses that are based on the production of cucumbers and tomatoes and other fresh vegetables are now going to go under because of this latest bug ?

    How selfish !

Mind you, as far as that is concerned, you are sticking to form.

Now you are going to have to watch out for beansprouts too as it has been confirmed that this is now one of the most likely sources of the mutant E-Coli in Germany.

The deaths now stand at 22 with 2153 people ill and 627 of these are suffering from kidney-failure brought on by the unusual qualities of this strain of the disease.

And you are happy that you are safe because you are a "salad-dodger" eh ?

I say again...."How selfish is that then ?"
