European Judges ban the use of gender-based insurance.

Post by papa_umau on Tue 01 Mar 2011, 2:13 pm

A set of European judges have ruled that the setting of car-insurance levels based on gender in Britain, ( women being insured more cheaply than men because - say the insurance companies - "women are more careful drivers" etc' ), is to be scrapped as the European discrimination laws say that insurances based on gender-differences is unfair.

The ruling from the European Courts of Justice, SEEN HERE is said to take effect from 2012.

So folks, what do you think of that then ?

Will this be the end of companies like "Sheila's Wheels" ?

One things will be certain: the insurance costs will get no lower for anybody but they may get higher for the wimmin drivers as a result of this ruling.

I guess that this is what could be called positive discrimination for wimmin I suppose ????

While not being a blind follower of PC I do think that no minority group should be discriminated against just because they are a minority group.

Anyway, I heard that even although women do not have as many high-cost accidents they certainly do have more minor shunts while manoeuvering in tight spaces - like car-parks - for example.

At least the insurance companies think so, and they should know I guess.

What I want to know is: Why is it that we have to adapt our laws to suit the European pattern ? After all we have been making our own laws for many hundreds of years and we have become quite good at it.

I suspect that the European Commision on Human Rights is applying to just about every law we make these days.

For this reason alone I think we should end being a signatory to this European Commission.

Who are they to dictate to us anyway ?

Yes Angie, few of us would disagree with that.

Even as a confirmed European I STILL live in sovereign Britain and as such I think that our own laws should take precidence over European laws that are foisted onto us against our wills. This needs sorted out NOW !
