WikiLeaks. What do you think of these events ?

Post by zathrus on Thu 16 Dec 2010, 12:00 pm

I for one think that the charges for sexual misconduct that are being furiously enforced by Sweden are a smokescreen for what Julian Assange has done in the internet. This man has taken it onto himself to bring out into the open many of the utterings that international governments want to keep quiet.

I do not see this as an attack on any national security secrets but as big mouthed politicians being caught out for simpley speaking their minds behind closed doors.

I do hope the truth does come out in the final result.

    Hi Zath !

I agree that this is certainly starting to look like a high-level witch hunt.

The American administration has pulled in a lot of owed favours to see that Wikileaks is stopped in it's tracks. We are seeing censorsship of the freedom of the internet like we have never seen before in the West. Only the Communists have ever tried this level of attacks against free speech before.

We must fight to ensure that the internet stays free and available to all of the peoples of the world.

As the days go by the screws are being tightened on that guy.

A prominent American figure even called for his execution yesterday.

It seems that the West is getting more like the middle East every day.

At least Assange has a lot of supporters in the free world and a lot of these supporters are experts in hacking and doing damage to governmental communications and support systems.

If the Americans don't back off a bit we may see their official websites and security services under severe attack.

This could develop into a cyber-war if the Yanks let it.

Yes Angie, it looks as if an internet war is about to be waged when the agents for a free internet meet the agents looking for a censored one.

I cannot ever see the internet being controlled as the secretive governments want it to be controlled.

I hadn't even heard of this site until the manure hit the fan.

It's a great way to get your website to the top of the search engines....but then I'm just a cynical old battleaxe!

Yes, with good AND bad publicity that site has become flavour of the month.

That aside I think that Wikileaks is generating a news service that is not normally available to the man/woman in the street.

Such information is kept very closely to the political chests so that the top echelons in and out of government can get on with whatever the hell they like.

I do agree that stuff that REALLY risks national security and the lives of agents abroad should not be released to public view but....and this is BIG BUT, such security measures should not be used so that the top people can indulge in whatever misbehaviour that they might think fit.

We need a "Wikileaks", but it must be done carefully !
