Was England outclassed by Germany ?

Post by papa_umau on Mon Jun 28, 2010 11:15 am

England can argue for as long as they like about the goal that never was, but ultimately it was the team that never turned up that brought their poor World Cup campaign to an end against their old rivals.

After all of the hoo-haa about how good England were and what they were going to do at the World Cup, it seems that the ageing England players were simply not up to beating the young German players.

I want to ask: Does the England team need to get rid of some of those old-timers and get a young team - just like Germany - in it's place ?

Also, Is it not time that the England team was coached by an Englishman rather than a foreigner ?

    Any comments ?

One goal would not have made any difference, the Germans have a stronger team than us.

    Cheers, HG

Some might try to say that having that obvious goal knocked off might have ripped the heart out of the England players. It certainly looked like they allowed the Germans to overrun them afterwards.

Having said that HG I agree that in general they were outclassed by Germany.

It would have been at totally different game at 2-2, and in fact I think England would have gone in at half time 3-2 up - I predicted this before we (England) had kicked a ball before the competition started!

WATCH OUT FOR ANY DODGY DECISIONS - ANY 50 -50 DECISIONS WOULD GO AGAINST US!!!

This is the THIRD time this has happened - not including the hand of god Argies goal!

Sol campball scored in the world cup & european championship - both goals rules out for pushing???

    Hmmmmmmmm!

Thats why I don't take ANY level of football seriously these days.

BTW - Forget the 2018 bid - even thou it's OUR turn and it should come home where the game was invented. The world don't like England.

Hi again Wheel and while it is great to see you popping up on ROB now and again I cannot agree that there is any specific unfairness directed at England, ( well at least not at England's football team that is ). ( A touch or paranoia there maybe ? ). Suspect

The 4.0 wipeout of Argentina by the Germans proved once again that the German team is exactly what England and other countries lack....it's a team !

There is no good whatsoever having half a dozen stars in your - anybody's - team if they do not play together. The way that Germany carved gaps through the English and the Argentine defence just proved how deadly this young team is.

I can see a final with The Netherlands and Germany fighting it out and sadly, I expect Germany, ( if they keep playing as they are at the moment ), to be the world cup winners...... AGAIN.

I think that it is time that England forgot about 1966 and started to work on what they have to do to win the world cup in the future.

BTW mate, and before you say it, I agree that Scotland are just not good enough at the moment to play with anybody at that level !

Scotlands problem is what Englands problem is about to start!

Not enough home grown players in the large numbers of the past, this affects the national team.

Scotland and England need to address this problem, if not England will also disappear!

    Cheers wheel.
