    Sunbed tanning fights cancer ?????????

Post by papa_umau on Mon 17 May 2010, 11:01 am

A company that was exposed more than a year ago for advertising that the use of their sunbeds will actually PREVENT skin cancer, is at it again.

"Indigo Sun" - a chain of tanning salons, AGAIN boasts of "health benefits" found in their tanning machines after they were exposed by a national newspaper a year ago as frauds.

While we all know that we get vitamin "D" from sunshine this company are promoting all kinds of health benefits from the use of their machines.

As it is recognised by almost all health professionals that excess exposure to sunshine - whether natural or artificial - can lead to the growth of many types of skin cancers, including the very dangerous melanoma cancers, this marketing ploy flies in the face of this advice.

Watch out for this company and give them a wide berth if you want to stay healthy !

Well folks, do YOU use tanning salons ? and do YOU think they are safe ?

I've only used a sunbed twice: I didn't enjoy the experience, and, although it started a tan off well but gradually, I found it uncomfortable.

    I'd rather stay a paleface!

I'm with you on this one HG !

People should do what their skin-type tells them to do.

I mean by that that they should not try to be golden adonises if their skin-type is fair.

It is strange that in my family my daughter and I are dark-skinned and tan almost instantly when out in the sun yet my son only tans with great difficulty. ( Takes after his mum in this respect ). Even worse is that my three grandchildren take their dad's colouring and have honey-blond hair and fair skin.

I guess that what this adds up to is: If you are meant to tan you will and if you are not, you won't and it is dangerous to try to do something that nature is telling you is wrong.

I have never heard anything more ridiculous in my life than sunbed operators saying that sunbeds are a healthy option.

    Total rubbish.

I am with you on the "nature" thing too Papa.

Nature tells us in no uncertain terms what is right for us and what is wrong. I sometimes wonder why some people are too stupid to take a hint.
