While I am sure that we and our troops in Afghansitan already know that their posting is probably one of THE most dangerous postings that any army have had to serve under, I am sure that our boys worry about who is actually their enemy in this war and who is not.
As a Taliban or an Al-Quaeda soldier looks like any other local if they dress as they do our lads don't have a clue who to watch out for and who not to. Any person dressed in local garb could be the next suicide bomber they are going to meet and it must be awful to have to be a soldier under these conditions.
NOW...we see a new twist where a newly-trained Afghan policeman has killed five of our lads at a checkpoint.... SEE THIS . This means that the soldiers that are training up this new Afghan force have no clue where the allegiances lie of each individual they are giving the right to carry weapons openly or they are putting in charge of sensitive areas and they don't know who of these new "allies" are really Taliban or Al-Quaeda in disguise.
An impossible and totally terrifying prospect !
I hope that none of you have sons or brothers or husbands or even daughters or sisters or wives serving in this hell-hole !
One risk too far for our soldiers in Afghanistan.....

Yeah, that was terrible piece of news !
You can certainly get the news before any of the newspapers or the TV get it.
I agree that it is now getting to be quite a desperate situation in Afghanistan as our soldiers now haven't a clue who to trust any more. One senior figure said on the TV yesterday that he was sure that even in so-called safe areas the squaddies will now keep their weapons handy and ready to use.
I see that the Black Watch are coming back home in a few days and I bet those lads will be hoping that all of them live through those last few days so as to see their loved ones back home again.
As it seems that the people of Afghanistan don't want to stand up for freedom from the Taliban and maybe they should just be left on their own to fall back into ethnic genocide once again.

I was wondering if some of us and yes, even the politicians, are becoming jaded and used to the idea that these deaths are worth it all ?
Brown regularly says that this is something that we have to do to maintain the security of the British people at home and yet I cannot see what good this task in far away Afghanistan is doing towards this end.
In fact I often think that every Muslim life, innocent or not, that is taken by our troops in such places is just one more reason for Jehad.
