We are now seeing many lowlying areas being flooded on a routine basis and with rainfall now measuring in hundreds of centimeters we see things like the floods in Cumbria and the South West.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/weather/6616406/Cumbria-floods-residents-braced-for-more-rain-over-weekend.html

I am wondering if this is the start of the fulfilment of the predictions that we have been getting for a few years now. If it is we can start to worry about all of the lowlying areas ...

I really cannot understand why that proven handball by Thierry Henry is being allowed to stand as the video evidence proved that he cheated to get that vital goal.

Because of his cheating Ireland has been knocked out of the World Cup and France are still going forward to South Africa. If the handball had not effected the match then that would be fine, but it did and there should be a replay as far as I am concerned.

I don't know why instant video evidence is not routinely used in football ...

It was announced yesterday that the cost of The Commonwealth Games around Glasgow in 2014 is to rise from an original £370 million by £80 million to around £450 million.

I am sure that we all expect such projects to grow in cost and this one is typical of the rest as it was deliberately underestimated at the outset.

Two points come to mind after this admission:

1). The Commonwealth Games will cost about a fifth what the London Olympics will cost !

2). They will go ahead WITHOUT ...

I don't think it will be easy to avoid this question as the viewing numbers for this programme tell us that the Brits are very interested in what Nick Griffin actually believes in.

I think it was brave of the BBC to give him the chance to air his views on network TV as because we live in a democratic society even the worst kind of minority political parties should be allowed a voice.

It appears that Griffin showed his true self when he was put to the test as he supported the Klu-Klux-Klan ...

Every day I see these atrocities being committed I wonder what Al-Quaeda or the Taliban hope to achieve by this blood-letting.

I mean, everybody knows that bombs are indiscriminate and that they kill everybody that is in the vicinity no matter what their race, creed or colour is.

Surely these terrorist organisations must know that every time they ...

I have investigated why the avatars of some of you have suddenly disappeared and I found out from the admin forum that because Forumotion - our net-hosts - moved the whole of the database to a new server so that the original server could be upgraded and enlarged, the moving back to the original and stronger server meant that some of the lesser data - like avatars - was unfortunately lost.

Not supporting any particular political mob, I still think that the practice of The Sun tabloid to jump around searching for winners to back in the political mire is distasteful and smacks of treachery.

This bottom-of-the-barrel tabloid is famous for not having any allegiance to anybody but the "winning" side and this shows a distinct lack of moral fibre and any decency in this dog-eat-dog business.

I found it pleasing today to see that the EU have had a profound effect on the charges that the telephone service providers make when people use their roaming facilities while abroad.

Because the EU have imposed an across the board maximum on roaming charges a cut of around 60% has been the result.

At one time the operators were making profits of above 200 per cent on calls made while roaming and 300 to 400 per cent for received calls.

That nutter Armadinnergong, or summat, is really pushing the buttons of the UN when he tries to hide plants that are making enriched uranium and this just goes to show that he and the ruling imams in Iran don't give a damn about the opinions of the rest of the world when they do what they do.

One of the nasty side effects of the government's scrappage scheme is the fact that because many cheap - if not necessarily nasty - cars are now being put for scrappage in this scheme there is a chronic shortage of cheap cars for young people short of cash to buy.

At one time a young person who wanted to own his or her first car might buy a cheap ten year old one and either do it up themselves or get a parent and a tame mechanic to make it roadworthy enough to pass an MOT. Now this option ...

Yes, I know that the bombers of Pan Am flight 103 did not use any compassion or mercy when they did what they did, but does that mean we should act like them when considering if Megrahi should be allowed to go home to die ?

I for one think not and I think that Justice Secretary Kenny MacKaskill was very courageous to go against all of that ...

I was totally confused when I read today that the British government are to do a deal with the Principality of Liechtenstein whereby British taxpayers will no longer be able to hide their money from the taxman in that small country.

Pull the other one I say !

Most of us know that rich Brits that do not want to pay their share of the tax burden salt their wealth away in tax havens all around the world including in Swiss numbered accounts and in islands off the coast of Britain like Isle ...

Hi All

Don't know if you follow politics in America but in the last while or so Republican Ron Paul has issued a Bill to audit the Federal Reserve. Why? Well here's why:

Why Audit The Federal Reserve?

Ron Paul’s legislation is aimed at pulling back the curtain from a secretive and unaccountable Federal Reserve. Congress and the American people have minimal, if any, oversight over trillions of dollars that the Fed controls.

With recent bailouts and spending decisions shining ...

The government like to keep using the buzz-words of "The battle against child poverty in Britain" and yet it seems that this particular kind of poverty in Britain is getting worse rather than better.

Nothing brings this fact home more than when the people at the bottom of the income scale have to try to buy new uniforms and schoolbags and stationery and PE kit for their kids for the start of the new term.

Those that cannot provide new blazers and shoes for their kids face ...

I know I don't usually write on the forum on a Sunday but I thought that this one couldn't wait.

I was wondering what the people of Ripped-Off Britain think of the new ruling that allows women's boxing as an Olympic games event when just a few weeks ago the Olympics Committee scrapped the women's Judo event.

This means that British women's judo champions, of which there are many, are now going to have to change over to wrestling if they want to compete at anything like their chosen ...

With reports now saying that swine-flu is spreading like wildfire in England and that young people and babies and pregnant women are mostly at risk I am beginning to get a bit nervous about this.

I worry that when the winter comes this pestilence will come back even more virulently and it will kill a lot of people.

Here is a report that I read this morning:

The pundits say that it might take up to ten years to truly get back to steady growth in Britain but I was wondering how we are going to manage this if we cannot compete on the world markets because of our high wages.

I mean, if we keep paying ourselves double or treble what the outsourced countries pay their employees we will never be competitive again will we ?

I don't think that Britain can survive or the service industries alone, do you ?
