Illegal use of students is growing !

While it is Illegal for companies to take on students for "work experience" without paying them it seems that this is happening right around the country.

In a recent survey it was shown that this is a common practice and that as students are not in any position to whistleblow on such employers they are being taken advantage of on a regular basis.

We are now seeing many lowlying areas being flooded on a routine basis and with rainfall now measuring in hundreds of centimeters we see things like the floods in Cumbria and the South West.

I am wondering if this is the start of the fulfilment of the predictions that we have been getting for a few years now. If it is we can start to worry about all of the lowlying areas ...

I know that I have a particular axe to grind here but this posting is not connected to that !

It was published today that even although Scottish and Southern Energy Group ( which includes The Scottish Hydro Board ), have admitted to £410 million of profits ( which have soared by a third since last year ), they warn that prices in the future may "GO UP".

It is beginning to look as if this company have no conscience at all and that they feel that an overt need for ever higher ...

I really cannot understand why that proven handball by Thierry Henry is being allowed to stand as the video evidence proved that he cheated to get that vital goal.

Because of his cheating Ireland has been knocked out of the World Cup and France are still going forward to South Africa. If the handball had not effected the match then that would be fine, but it did and there should be a replay as far as I am concerned.

I don't know why instant video evidence is not routinely used in football ...

Foreword.....

Many of you will already know of "the corporate bully syndrome" as you will have seen it both here and on the old "ROB" and you will recognise it when you have see it in past newspaper and TV articles. The TV programme, Watchdog, has shown this phenomenon on many occasions.

One of the very special qualities of this syndrome is that when the big bully corporate entities are faced with exposure on national TV or in national newspapers ...

The politicans from all hues are well aware that the elderly of this country are the ones that are more liable to actually get off their backsides and vote and even while they know this I do not think that they are worried enough about what we do when we DO go out to vote.

While the more elderly of the country are better interested in politics than the young ones are I think that we are far too fragmented and set in our ways in our historical support for certain parties.

It was announced yesterday that the cost of The Commonwealth Games around Glasgow in 2014 is to rise from an original £370 million by £80 million to around £450 million.

I am sure that we all expect such projects to grow in cost and this one is typical of the rest as it was deliberately underestimated at the outset.

Two points come to mind after this admission:

1). The Commonwealth Games will cost about a fifth what the London Olympics will cost !

2). They will go ahead WITHOUT ...

I don't think it will be easy to avoid this question as the viewing numbers for this programme tell us that the Brits are very interested in what Nick Griffin actually believes in.

I think it was brave of the BBC to give him the chance to air his views on network TV as because we live in a democratic society even the worst kind of minority political parties should be allowed a voice.

It appears that Griffin showed his true self when he was put to the test as he supported the Klu-Klux-Klan ...

I take a much different stance over the dumping of nuclear waste and the practice of leaving "hot" nuclear submarines to lie and rot in docks that are close to towns and cities.

Official figures here showed that nearly 3,600 workers were underpaid in 2008-9 - more than double the figures from two years previously.

While this practice has only been measured in Scotland I cannot imagine what they might be for the whole of the country.

You will have noticed that I have been posted missing !

Well, a nasty virus got into my computer and damaged it a few weeks ago.

I put it in for repair and it came back sort-of sorted but totally fell apart last Saturday. I found a trojan and discovered that it had seriously impaired my registry.

It went back into the repair shop but this time the techies could not get it working as the damage done was too severe. They were forced to do a clean re-install ...

Another subject that will come to everybody eventually is:....what do we want for ourselves when we become too infirm to stay at home any more ?

I would like to think that the state would provide high-quality care for the people who are in their last few years so that this transition from a full and active life to a life of dependence on others is carried out as efficiently, as humanely and as carefully as it can be.

It is patently NOT like this !

Not being connected in any way to religious dogma I find that the subject of voluntary euthanasia for me comes down to basic humanity and about what is right and what is wrong.

I have considered this idea at great depth, ( without getting maudlin about it, I have to say ), as I have always felt that humans have the exact same or better rights than animals have when their lives become too much to bear or the pain that they are enduring because of serious illness is crying out for some act ...

For a while now I have been considering the idea that ROB2 should have a section especially for the pensioners out there. This should include all people who receive a self-created private pension, an occupational pension, or a state pension, as all of these pensions are worthy of discussion.

Don't think that just because you are not old enough to contribute to such a type of forum as all people who are living in Britain will come to this soon enough, ( that is if you survive to qualify for ...

Danny Boyle, the famous film director, has called for the cinemas to start to drop their prices as nowadays they are so expensive that many kids - in particular - are now never getting to see a film on any regular basis.

When one considers that most cinemas charge for car-parking, ( or the local authorities do ), and part of the experience of going to the cinema is to get a drink and some popcorn before taking your seat it is now common for a two-adult and two-children family to easily spend ...

Being aware of such things I am always drawn to the times when such incidences are reported in the media and I find that nowadays this is becoming a greater and greater and more common problem.

It is often acceptable that private companies send their top officials off on "fact finding missions" abroad as these are seen as the "perks" associated with being "up there" at the top of the tree. This is fine so long as the shareholders of such companies don't mind ...

I was reading the Daily Express this morning (Pause for heckling about it being a Tory rag etc) There were two interesting articles the first by Leo Mckinstry titled

POLICE HAVE BECOME A POLITICALLY CORRECT INCOMPETENT MESS. which highlights the failings of police forces in this country a couple of excerpts:-

THE warped values of the modern police are a graphic indicator of Britain’s decline.

We once had the finest force in the world, a bulwark of civilisation that protected society ...

I recently found a good forum that specialises in this subject and while I go there regularly to add ...

Today I received an e-mail from Michael Thompson of Link-Age/Countrywide

Here it is:

Hello Papaumau,

Did you receive the piece I sent you concerning pensions in Europe compared to the UK ?

Also what do you think of this ?- It is going to be sent by e.mail to local papers UK wide.

Dear Sir,

UK pensioners are the worst treated in the developed world, particularly in Europe where state pensions are much higher than here in the UK. 1 in 5 UK pensioners ...
