Hi folks.
I am going to use this announcement posting to give you any news that you might like to have about your new forum:
Today I registered with all of the search engines and found that the first link is already on page four of GOOGLE. THAT was pretty quick !
I have changed the look of the index page so as to make it more informative of what we are all about here and you will notice the differences after you log on.
I have also added a PORTAL page so that anyone looking at the link to the site will come to this portal to see an example of what we are discussing. Any of the members can access this "portal" from the top line of the index page.
I am sure that after more use the search-result for "Ripped-Off Britain" on the likes of GOOGLE will move forward until it comes to the first page. I intend to promote the forum in as many ways as I can to this end.
You guys and gals can help with this if you want by accessing the forum via page four of Google.
I will give any more news via this thread as it comes up !

UPDATE.....
I have been beavering away in the background getting your new forum to be recognised by the search engines - with some success.
1 ). If you put "ripped-off britain" ( without caps or quotation marks but WITH the hyphen ), into a GOOGLE search box your new forum hits the first page of the search right under "Rip-Off Britain" and second on the page.
2). If you spell it with caps like - "Ripped-Off Britain" - including the hyphen, but without the quotes - it will appear - or has done - at the bottom of the first search page result.
Getting better ! ( I will keep on working at it !).
Now maybe a lot more people will see the new forum when they do a ripped-off britain search.

Continued update.....
MY efforts at getting the Ripped-Off Britain website and forum recognised by the search engines is growing apace.
Now we can be found on Dogpile, Yahoo and Wikia search too. ( as well as on Google ).
To find the forum and some of it's topics on these search engines the best way to do it is to put "rippedoffbritain" ( no spaces, caps or quotation marks ) into each of the search boxes of these engines. If you do you will find this site either at the top of the list or maybe two or three places down on the first page.
Most of you will know that anybody in the world that is now interested in Ripped-Off Britain will find us if they try to find us using these search engines !
The page-hits are rising by the minute.
Good eh ?

Re: NEWS... KEEP LOOKING......
Whilst I wish you every success in your venture - you know that anyway - I think you will have to try a little harder than this. GOOGLE often puts you high when it first discovers you but then you are buried in the 73200 other entries and only hard work will get you back up there. I just tried and found nothing.
Content is what they look for and if you keep deleting posts you don't agree with this is counterproductive. You need content, ANY content.
Also keywords/metadata is another, but as forumotion are in contol of this I guess there is not much you can do.
Finally inbound links is another - you need friends. You need links from sites with a high page rank. My website has a page one ranking on google and you would probably benefit from a link from it. Type the word 'link: ' (note the space) in front of a rival site url to see how many people are linking to that site. You may be able to get on some of them. But like I say, you need friends.

Re: NEWS... KEEP LOOKING......
Thanks for all that "advice"; I am well aware of most of it !
I only "delete" postings - that you refer to - that are either off topic or do not fit within the basic ethos of the board. Most people will know when they are doing something that is "out of line" and they should not be surprised when such empty rhetoric is deleted. There has been plenty of warning about this.
Please yourself, but be aware that I am NOT going to get caught up in downward-spiralling spats like I got caught up in on the old ROB.
Now that you know you should NOT be surprised when a bit of text that is superfulous to requirements is quietly deleted.
The management decisions here - just like in any other moderated board - are final and uncontestable.
NB
( As far as finding this site in a Google search box is concerned: Maybe you are just doing it wrong !
If you put rippedoffbritain, ( without caps, hyphens or spaces in ), you should get a return second on the first page with a request for a spelling correction to "Rip-Off Britain". If you put "Ripped-Off Britain" into the search box you will find "Free Forum Ripped-Off Britain is the second item down the first page. I already said this in my original search information. As I have just this minute done it and found that it works why don't you try it ).

Re: NEWS... KEEP LOOKING......
I was using the UK as opposed to the web in general. You are right - it does work, but how many people would search using that phrase?

Re: NEWS... KEEP LOOKING......
Yes, sadly that is a title that will not be often used in a search as the "Rip-Off" phrase is the one most often used as opposed to the "Ripped-Off" one. ( Had to change the title slightly so as not to clash with Rip-Off Britain ).
Having said that I HAVE registered with the search engines using metatags and it is these small bits of code that the engines look for specifically.
It IS true that the more traffic that I might have through the site and the greater number of URLs that are in use decides on how much interest the search engines might have on any site.
I plan to find out how I can put links to similar sites on the index-page heading but there is no obvious or intuative way to do this as far as I can see.

Re: NEWS... KEEP LOOKING......
Most of you will have noticed that a couple of changes have happened to the fixed format of the board !
1). A new title has appeared in the middle of the top section that says "Editboard.com" and all I can suggest is that this is just another name for "Forumotion" that has come in because of a merger of some kind.
2). You will also have noted that ominously a dark green "Google" advertising banner has appeared on some of the pages here. I would hope that this would be the end of it as if contextual adverts start to appear IN the text areas we will be moving towards a similar setup as was evident with the ole ROB. I hope not.
I will pay the admin forum a visit and see if anything is being said about this there.
Watch this space !

Re: NEWS... KEEP LOOKING......
Hi there "Dirk"..... You will not find this website and forum if you enter "Rip-Off-Britain" as I did not register it as such. ( The old ROB forum - which is soon to be defunct - used that term in the search engines and I would have been wrong to try to connect to THIS website using the same name ).
If you put "Ripped off Britain" - without the quotes - into Google, ( the largest and fastest search engine on the internet ) you will find that this website will come FOURTH at the top of the FIRST page before 1,630,000 other hits.
NOW...what was it that you wanted to discuss with us ?

As I thought that the font-size was hard to read I have made it bigger !
Is that big enough for you now ?

Hi again.....
If you all look at the bottom of the "compose" page you will find that I have authorised the use of the "Quick reply" option.
Maybe some of you will prefer to use this option than using the main compose window.

New VB-code logo of the forum !
Here is the new logo that I have altered to work with VB-code so that it can be used in any of the forums that use VB or BB-code instead of HTML:

Notice that if you click on it it works as a hyperlink to the portal of this forum from anywhere that uses VB-code.
What do you folks think of it ?
Once again, thanks to Merlinz for the HTML code and the logo design !
